Two supplemental irrigations
At Agricultural Research Station, Darsi, two supplemental irrigations — one at the pre-flowering stage and the second at the pod development stage — largely doubled the seed yield of red gram.
Irrigate immediately after sowing, on the 3rd day after sowing, and at the bud initiation, 50% flowering and pod development stages. Avoid water stagnation.

Pre-emergence herbicide
Apply pendimethalin 0.75 kg per hectare (2.5 litres per hectare) as pre-emergence on the 3rd day after sowing, mixed with 500 litres of water, using a flat fan (deflector) nozzle. Then irrigate the field, and give one hand weeding on the 30th–35th day. There should be sufficient soil moisture when the herbicide is applied.
Follow the instructions on the product label. Consult your local Agriculture Officer before use.
