Seed rate: 500 g per hectare. Sow in polythene bags, not deeper than 1 cm: 5–6 seeds per bag for dioecious varieties and 3–4 for gynodioecious varieties. Raise seedlings in a protected (insect-proof) structure with partial shade to avoid papaya ringspot virus; they are ready in about 60 days. June–September is the best planting season; avoid severe summer and peak rains. Plant at 1.8 m either way in 45 x 45 x 45 cm pits and avoid water stagnation in the basin.
