Bring the soil to a fine tilth. Plains: ridges and furrows 60 cm apart, plants 45 cm apart. Hills: pits 45 cm apart each way. Fill gaps 20 days after planting. Hoe and weed on the 30th and 45th day; avoid deep cultivation as the crop is shallow-rooted.
