Apply fertilizers basally before sowing. Rainfed: 12.5 kg N + 25 kg P2O5 + 12.5 kg K2O + 20 kg S per hectare. Irrigated: 25 kg N + 50 kg P2O5 + 25 kg K2O + 40 kg S per hectare (sulphur as gypsum if single super phosphate is not used). Under irrigation, also apply 25 kg ZnSO4 per hectare.

Foliar sprays
Spray 1% urea on the 30th and 45th day after sowing for yield improvement. If plants show deficiency symptoms, spray 0.5% ZnSO4, or 1% FeSO4 + 0.1% citric acid, on the 30th and 45th day. During a dry spell in the rabi season, a spray of 2% KCl + 100 ppm boric acid is recommended.

Irrigation and hand weeding
Irrigate immediately after sowing, give a life irrigation on the third day, then irrigate every 7–10 days depending on soil and weather. Flowering and pod formation are critical stages when irrigation is a must; avoid water stagnation at all stages. If no herbicide is used, give two hand weedings on the 15th and 30th day after sowing.

Pre-emergence herbicide
Apply pendimethalin on the 3rd day after sowing: 1.0 litre per hectare (irrigated) or 0.75 litre per hectare (rainfed), in 500 litres of water with a flat fan nozzle, followed by one hand weeding at 20 days after sowing.
