If a soil test is not available, apply 80:40:40 kg NPK per hectare. Apply half the N and all the P and K basally, placed in the sowing line; top-dress the remaining half of N at crown root initiation (15–20 days after sowing). For soils deficient in zinc and sulphur, apply 37.5 kg ZnSO4 and 40 kg S per hectare basally.

Irrigation at critical stages
Wheat needs 4–6 irrigations depending on soil and rainfall, with at least 5 at these critical stages: immediately after sowing; crown root initiation (15–20 days); active tillering (35–40 days); flowering (50–55 days); and grain filling (70–75 days). Crown root initiation and flowering are the most critical. Avoid water stagnation at germination.
If no herbicide is used, give two hand weedings, on the 20th and 35th day after sowing.
