Irrigate at planting and on the 3rd day, then every 7–10 days up to the 3rd month and every 20–30 days up to the 8th month. Irrigated crop: FYM 25 t/ha at planting; NPK 45:90:120 kg/ha basal, then N 45 and K 120 kg/ha at 90 days with earthing up; zinc sulphate 25 kg, sulphur 20 kg (as gypsum) and borax 10 kg/ha basal. Rainfed crop: FYM 12.5 t/ha with N 50, P 65 and K 125 kg/ha basal. Growing CO 2 vegetable cowpea before tapioca and ploughing in its haulms halves the FYM and phosphorus needed.
