Tamarind — 3Land preparation & sowing

  • Propagation and planting

Grafted plants flower and bear earlier than seedlings. Approach grafting in May–June gives about 90% success; patch budding on 9-month-old saplings 80–90%. Seeds sown in March–April germinate faster after a 24-hour soak in 10% cow urine or cow-dung solution. Plant grafts in June–November at 8 x 8 m in 1 m pits filled with 10 kg FYM and topsoil, and stake them.
