Plough well and form ridges and furrows. FYM 25 t/ha; without a soil test, NPK 10:60:30 kg/ha at sowing. Seeds are hard: scarify by pounding with sand, or pour just-boiled water over them for 3–4 minutes and then soak overnight in cold water, or soak in plain water for 72 hours. Treat with Rhizobium and phosphobacteria (600 g each). Seed rate 10 kg/ha; spacing 2 x 1 m. (An acid scarification method is also listed.)
