Red gram

Red gram — 1Crop suitability

  • Climate suited to red gram

Red gram suits rainfed farming in semi-arid areas because of its deep taproot, heat tolerance and fast growth. It prefers a fairly moist and warm climate during vegetative growth, and bright sunny weather during flowering and pod ripening. It is highly susceptible to frost at flowering, and has low tolerance of soil salinity and waterlogging.
