Mango

Mango — 5Crop stages

  • Canopy management through the years

Remove rootstock sprouts and low branches near the ground. Do not allow flowering up to three years: remove inflorescences as they appear. Every year in August–September, keep two healthy shoots and trim away weak ones among crowded terminal shoots. Prune back 20 cm of the annual terminal growth immediately after harvest. Once in three years, in August–September, prune internal branches judiciously. In old trees, remove overlapping, crossing, diseased, dried and weak branches for sunlight and aeration.

  • Sprays for flowering and fruit set

Spray NAA at 20 ppm at flowering to increase fruit set and retention. If trees have not flowered by February, 0.5% urea (5 g/l) or 1% potassium nitrate (10 g/l) may be sprayed to induce flowering. Spray 2% potassium nitrate at mustard (fruit) size to increase fruit size and retention, and 2% sulphate of potash at pea stage and 15 days later to improve yield and quality.

Follow the instructions on the product label. Consult your local Agriculture Officer before use.
