Apply 5 t of well-decomposed FYM at the last ploughing, plus 20 kg each of N, P2O5 and K2O per hectare basally. Top-dress 10 kg N after the first weeding (20–25 days) and again after the second weeding (35–40 days). In drought or fertilizer shortage, spray 2% urea (20 g per litre) on the leaves at 40–45 and 70–75 days.

Weeding and irrigation
Hand-weed twice, at 20–25 and 35–40 days after sowing. Jute needs about 500 mm of water: irrigate after sowing, give a life irrigation on the 4th day, and then irrigate once in 15 days.
