Jute

Jute — 1Crop suitability

  • Where jute grows

Jute needs an assured supply of irrigation water for both growing and retting (fibre extraction). Alluvial sandy loam and clay loam soils are best. Capsularis jute can grow even in standing water late in its growth; Olitorius jute will not thrive in standing water, is more drought-resistant and is grown on lighter soils. Crop duration: 120–140 days.
