Train vines on a pandal or a Y-trellis (the Y-trellis allows machines inside the vineyard). Open trenches 2.5 ft deep and 2.5 ft wide running north–south, fill with topsoil, FYM, sheep manure, green manure and superphosphate, and irrigate well one month before planting. Plant Dogridge rootstocks in January–February and graft them in the field in June–September (wedge grafting, scions with 2–3 buds, 15–25 cm long); own-rooted cuttings are best planted in June–July. Spacing: 4 x 2 m for commercial varieties, 3 x 2 m for Muscat Hamburg. No fertilizer is needed in the first month after planting.
