Cotton

Cotton — 1Crop suitability

  • Climate suited to cotton

Cotton is a tropical warm-season crop. It needs a daily mean temperature of 16°C for seed germination, 21–27°C for vegetative growth and 27–32°C for the fruiting phase. Abundant sunshine during boll maturation and harvest is essential for good quality produce. Heavy rain or heavy irrigation during the fruiting period causes shedding of flowers and young bolls.
