Spacing 7.5 x 7.5 m (25 ft), about 175 palms/ha; for a single row on a field border, 20 ft between palms. Dig 3 x 3 x 3 ft pits and fill to 60 cm with FYM, red earth and sand in equal parts. Plant the seedling in the centre after removing all roots, press the soil well and shade it with plaited coconut or palmyra leaves. Keep the pits weed-free, keep the collar region uncovered, and fill the pit gradually by cutting the sides as the stem forms.
