At maturity the leaves turn yellow and look dried, and the grains harden. Cut the earheads separately; cut the straw a week later, let it dry and stack it. Dry the earheads and thresh with a mechanical thresher, a stone roller or cattle. Dry the grain below 10% moisture and store it in gunny bags; mixing 1 kg of activated kaolin per 100 kg of grain reduces rice weevil and rice moth.
